    GRE Exam Format

    There are two main types of GRE exams:

    1. GRE General Test

    This is the most common GRE exam and measures skills in verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and analytical writing.

      • Analytical Writing: One “Analyse an Issue” task (30 minutes)
      • Verbal Reasoning: Two sections with 27 questions in total (about 41 minutes)
      • Quantitative Reasoning: Two sections with 27 questions in total (about 47 minutes)
    • Computer-based test
    • Verbal and Quantitative sections are adaptive – the second section changes difficulty based on your first-section performance

    Scoring

    • Verbal Reasoning: 130-170
    • Quantitative Reasoning: 130-170
    • Analytical Writing: 0-6

    Total Test Time: About 1 hour and 58 minutes

    2. GRE Subject Tests

    These exams measure knowledge in a specific academic subject and are suitable for students with strong background in that field.

    • Available Subjects
      • Mathematics: Around 66 multiple-choice questions (2 hours 50 minutes)
      • Physics: Around 70 questions across mechanics, electromagnetism, optics,
    • Paper-based test
    • Scores reported on a 200–990 scale
    • Offered three times a year – September, October and April
    • Intended for students with undergraduate major or strong academic background in the subject
