Requirements may vary by university and program; however, Indian students generally submit the following.
First, you need to apply to and be accepted by a SEVP-certified U.S. educational institution. Once accepted, the university will issue you an I-20 form, which is your Certificate of Eligibility.
Before your visa interview, you must pay the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) fee. Keep the payment confirmation.
Fill out the online non-immigrant visa application form (DS-160) accurately and completely. You'll need to upload a photo and print the confirmation page.
Schedule an interview at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your home country. Appointment availability can vary, so plan ahead.
Pay the non-refundable visa application fee (MRV fee). Keep the receipt as proof of payment.
Gather all required documents, including your passport, I-20, SEVIS fee receipt, DS-160 confirmation, financial proof, academic records, and evidence of ties to your home country.
Be on time for your interview. Answer all questions honestly and clearly. The consular officer will assess if you are a genuine student and intend to return to your home country after your studies.
If your visa is approved, your passport with the visa stamp will usually be returned to you within a few days or weeks.
